Born 1946 in Budapest, died in Budapest in 1985. 1964-71, study of philology and philosophy, 1971-75, study of film and television direction in Budapest. 1982, DAAD guest in Berlin. 1982/83/84, lecturer at the DFFB Berlin. 1984, Artist in Residence in Vancouver.

In 1973, Gábor Bódy was co-founder and organizer of the K3 experimental group at the Béla-Balázs Studio in Budapest. Here, in the midst of the socialist system, unconventional and experimental artistic work was possible with a unique independence. Video work from 1977 onwards. Until 1985, Gábor Bódy lived a cosmopolitan life in the FRG and in Hungary, as a reciprocal mediator and stimulator between East and West. Seeking a new visual language, he made: Der Dämon (1982) Die Geisel (1983) Either/Or in Chinatown (1984) and its second version Theory of Cosmetics (Vancouver 1984). Here the ambiguity of associations is concentrated into a network of narrative, abstract and trivial decorative moments. In 1984/85, he made the Philo-Mytho-Lyric-Clips, which combine traditional content with the new media. Gábor Bódy influenced the direction of a young generation of artists with his ideas on video art and his search for new ways of arranging content in film, video and the combination of both. In 1982, he was the initiator and founder of "Infermental", an international video cassette periodical. "Infermental" had ten issues. His book on video theory "Axis" (together with Vera Bódy) was published in 1986. (Video-Forum, Neuer Berliner Kunstverein 2001)
